Avian influenza A(H5N1) in humans in Viet Nam and poultry in Asia - update
14 January 2004
Investigation of cases of acute respiratory illness are continuing in Viet Nam with support from WHO staff. The investigation has been undertaken in response to concerns over the laboratory confirmation, on Sunday, of the presence of avian influenza virus H5N1 in three patients who died of severe respiratory illness in late December and early January.
The H5N1 strain implicated in the outbreak has now been partially sequenced. All genes are of avian origin, indicating that the virus that caused death in the three confirmed cases had not yet acquired human genes. The acquisition of human genes increases the likelihood that a virus of avian origin can be readily transmitted from one human to another.
Investigations are focusing on the source of infection and possibilities of human-to-human transmission.
An outbreak of highly pathogenic H5N1 avian influenza was detected in southern Viet Nam in the beginning of January. The outbreak is now known to have spread to other provinces in the country. Reports indicate that pigs and ducks have also been infected.
Yesterday, officials in the Republic of Korea announced the spread of H5N1 avian influenza to an additional farm. Japan is also experiencing an outbreak in poultry caused by the H5N1 virus.
In response to these developments, WHO has initiated a series of activities. These include support to national authorities in investigating the outbreaks and enhanced surveillance activities in Asia. WHO has also initiated the development of candidates and reagents for vaccine production, and antigenic and genetic assessments of the H5N1 strain to provide up-to-date diagnostic tests to national influenza centres.
The WHO Global Influenza Network will receive virus and clinical specimens shortly. As a precautionary measure, network laboratories will immediately begin work on the development of a strain that can be used to produce a vaccine.

HHhmmm, bird flu originated from animals.....so,clearly humans aren't to be blamed for this catastrophy..but humans can also prevent this problem from spreading by implenting some preventive measures, for example, farm animals that are infected with the outbreak should be killed immediately to stop the disease from further spreading, humans that are infected should be quarantined,etc......that's all, thank you...

the bird flu issue is becoming even more serious lately.and i dont think that human become the cause of bird flu spread since the research had been stated that the environment of the sorrounding area of the animals is the top factor of the existing of bird flu.
i think that human should not be blamed because it comes from animals

i think that human shouldn't be blamed because we can see from the name of the disease "bird flu" which means that this disease is not caused by human but by animals.human is just the victims actually.we can prevent this disease by killing all the animals that are causing this disaster to human race...

Human is the cause of bird flu spread. We agree with this statement. As we know, cleanliness is the most important aspect to be taken care of in order to prevent all kind of diseases. Generally, the cleanliness of the farms may affect the spreading of the bacteria that cause the bird flu. The low condition of hygiene in the farms pollute the water sources such as rivers, lakes, ponds and others. The animals then use this polluted natural sources causing them to get various types of illnesses and one of them is this bird flu. So it is clearly shown that cleanliness must be the first thing to be considered in this issue. And this big responsibility lies on human.

i think the bird flu disease is not from human but from animal.i think it was bird that's why they call it bird flu,if it is from human so it is human flu.Seriously i don't know a lot about bird flu.but the only thing that i know is the disease kill many people in thailand and malaysia.it spread very fast until we don't know that it had reached our country.i only know about tsunami.
i think that human didn't cause the bird flu it spread because it comes from animals Faizul f1e1
We think that human is the cause of bird flu .As we know, human lack of cleanliness. The man who owns the farm is not seriously responsible in the way he look after the animal especially chickens.Besides, some of them did not obey the rules. They bring the chickens to Thailand for the chickens fight which have been affected by the bird flu in order to make money for their owns good.

wazzup!!!!!! apez, jawz, lat and raimi in da houzzz. yeahhhh . Bird flu ...or scientific name AVIAN INFLUENZA.... What causes it....of course, it is from birds (burung).. scientist have shown that this plague have causes thousands of life gone . Many humans have suffered due to the outbreak of this disease. the outbreak is cause by birds . Bird acts as a medium for the virus to spread human too could act as a medium for the virus to spread. to be continued......
Hmm...Actually,i think that human also contribute in spreading of the bird flue disease.this is because human made trades from country to country which also included import and export foods.Chickens that had been affected were exported from country to country which contirbute in spreading the bird flue decease.

skecth... is it burden? think twice gentleman. for me it is burden to go to practice. but it is enjoy to perform a sketch. it also enjoy to watch the sketch. sincerely, for me sketch is mildly burden, but i like it coz i don have to bring the readers digest 2 class or i don have english homework during practice periode.
DAP? whats dat? if is a political party, isuggest whom are interestad should carry on. But if it is stand for Di Alam Percintaan, i think it is very, very, very not relevent to carry on right now. the reason is we are only 18 or 19 and it is too young to have a couple. you should used your young periode to do what you want to do and achieve your vision. If we are in DAP, we are not a freeman anymore coz our decision is depend on our gewe(kelantan word). do you like someone to arranged your life? for me the student who have a or many gewe is stupid.
